ESS people talking to students from Borgarskolan in Malmö.

To celebrate International Women’s Day some of the amazing women who work at ESS took a few minutes out of their day to sit down and talk about what they do with some students from Borgarskolan in Malmö. We also gave them a behind-the-scenes tour to get a feel for what this place will be like in the future, when people like them will be here, as future employees or users of neutrons for their research!

It takes a range of people to build and run a facility like ESS, from scientists with backgrounds in chemistry, biology or physics, to mechanical, software, system and safety engineers; from people with a background in finance, project management, Human Resources or International Relations, to technicians with training in electronics or welding. It takes a diverse workforce to build a Research Infrastructure!

This was a pilot event for ESS with just one school taking part. If you know a school who might like to participate in similar events in the future, please contactJoanna.lewis@ess.eu for a conversation. We also have videos and materials suitable for high school teachers available on the Explore pages of our sitewww.ess.eu/explore.
