26 February 2018

Last week on the construction site, the focus was on readying several areas of the Target Station (D02) for new concrete, including next-level walls for the Monolith, several structures in the Accelerator-to-Target (A2T) area, as well as components of the Utility and Transport areas on the Target Station perimeter.

The concrete will be pouring as fast as the pumps will carry it this week, with one major casting scheduled for each day, and with one casting per week on the Monolith going forward. This week’s castings will bring the total amount of concrete cast so far for the Target Station to more than 11,000 cubic metres.

Preparations for building the massive walls in the A2T area continue to ramp up with six truckloads of steel reinforcement scheduled for delivery this week. Work on the D05 target substation is moving quickly, with more precast walls installed last week.

Installation of the metal roof for the fan-shaped Guide Hall (E02), along with work on other E-buildings, moved steadily forward. Systems testing is ongoing in the Cryo-Compressor Building (G04), where access remains restricted, and 12 of the 19 towering helium tanks are now installed alongside the exterior of the building.
