ESS is headquartered in Lund, Sweden, where the neutron science facility and most operational activities are based. The ESS Data Management and Scientific Computing centre (DMSC), located in Copenhagen, Denmark, develops the data, computing, and software systems that support scientific operations and users across the facility.
Lund is located in southern Sweden in the Skåne region and is known for its international research environment, historic city centre, and strong cycling culture. Together with nearby Malmö and Copenhagen, it forms part of the Öresund region, a well-connected cross-border area offering a wide range of housing options, international communities, cultural activities, and career opportunities.
Malmö, Sweden’s third-largest city, is approximately 20 minutes from Lund by train and connected to Copenhagen via the Öresund Bridge. The wider region offers efficient public transport and short commuting times, making it possible to live in urban, suburban, or rural settings depending on personal preferences.
