Target

The TRP (Tremco Roof Preservative) roofing from the Monolith up to the Transport Hall is nearing completion, and installation of cable ladders and trays is ongoing on the high bay level. In the southeast corner of the Monolith high bay, a small house with gypsum walls is under construction. The temporary wall between the Monolith and A2T, Accelerator to Target, high bay is set to be removed in September, and the building parts will be semi-connected via a soft joint. With the recent commissioning of the temporary overhead crane for the full high bay, lifting all the way from the Transport Hall to the Monolith is now possible. The Monolith vessel, due to be delivered by ESS Bilbao in Spain, is slightly delayed as a result of the Corona Covid-19 virus, and is now forecast to arrive in July. The proton beam window and port blocks will follow shortly thereafter.

Works continue in the Target Entrance Building, with the hollow-core slabs completed up to level 120 and inner walls are being mounted for the top floor. A 350 m2 curtain wall has been manufactured for the entrance, and will be installed on site this summer.

Accelerator

All power cables have been pulled for sections 1-5 of the DTL, Drift Tube Linac, and work is ongoing with terminations, which is approximately 50% complete. Cable termination and grounding works will continue into the Spokes section, where currently helium collector piping is being installed. Mounting of the shielding wall in-between the DTL and Spokes sections, using large concrete blocks, is scheduled for early June. This temporary wall will be removed after commissioning of the Normal Conducting Linac (NCL) is successfully completed. Right now, the first DTL tank is being prepared  in a dedicated space inside the Gallery Building, and will soon be ready to be installed on a support structure in its permanent position inside the tunnel. Activities in the Gallery include population and subsequent energising of racks, power cabling, piping in the medium and high beta cells, and installation of waveguides and associated circulators.

General

Roof works in the Waste Treatment Facility started last week, and the subcontractor, UPB, has already placed the hollow core slabs over the central hall.

As the walkways and kerbstones along the north side of the Gallery Building have been completed, the area is now being laid with asphalt. External areas outside the Central Utility Building and the Distribution Substation were completed last week.

Works also continue with cladding along the Circular Road. Removal of the last noise barrier will start this week, and is due to be completed in the summer.
