Target
ESS gained parallel access to the bunker on Experimental Hall 2 side in late May, and since then, installation of a curved beam and 20 R6 pillars, with a precision of +/- 5mm, have been successfully completed. The temporary support structure there has now been dismantled and moved to the Experimental Hall 1 side so that exactly the same operation can be carried out.
Accelerator
Electrical cabling works are nearing completion in the first 50 metres of the Tunnel and Klystron Gallery, referred to by ESS as the NCG (Normal Conducting Gallery) and NCL (Normal Conducting Linac). The scope of these works, below in approximate numbers, are astonishing:
• 120,000 metres of cabling
• 2,400 cables
• 4,800 cable terminations, of which 4,400 have been terminated with different types of sockets
• 10,000 metres of cable ladders and cable trays.
Production completion is scheduled for August, by then everything will have been installed, tested, commissioned and handed over to ESS.
Polish in-kind partner, IFJ PAN, are now back on site and continuing waveguide installation and testing in Tunnel and Gallery Building.
General
Work on the hollow-core slabs and TRP (Tremco Roof Preservative) roofing for the Waste Treatment Facility has been completed, installation of a parapet is still ongoing, and insulation and roof membrane work will continue. All roof works are planned to be completed before the summer holiday period. In August, MEP works (electrical wiring, installation floors, piping etc), installation of the façade (metal cladding, steel doors and gate) and Internal finishes (painting, inner gypsum walls, floor treatment etc.) will all begin.
