Accelerator

Drift Tube Linac (DTL)

DTL4, placed in its permanent position inside the Normal Conducting Linac last week, is subject to installation. At the same time, DTL3 has been placed on the transport trolley and will be next in line.

Cryomodules

Another cryomodule for the Spokes section has been delivered after testing at the Freia lab at Uppsala University. We now have 10 of the 13 double-cavity modules in the on-site workshop, ready for installation in the Accelerator tunnel.

Meanwhile, medium beta elliptical cryomodule no 6 out of 9 is subject to cooldown inside the Test Stand 2 bunker.

Leak testing of the Cryogenic Distribution System is in progress.

Spoke power units

13/26 RF power station are in place in the Spoke section of the gallery building, with several units currently under power tests.

Target

Monolith inner shielding

The 51-tonne shielding block containing cooling channels for the moderator bucket, has been installed inside the Monolith vessel. More blocks will follow next week.

Instruments and Neutron Technologies

NBPI & NBPP

Another five Neutron Beam Port Inserts (NBPIs) have been delivered to ESS for instruments DREAM, FREIA, ESTIA, VESPA and SKADI.

Delivery of Neutron Beam Port Plugs (NBPPs) to ESS has also started. 26 port plugs are to be installed into the port tubes currently not used for the 15 instruments and the test beamline. With all NBPPs manufactured and currently stored in an off-site storage facility, the first delivery batch is for the north sector.

BIFROST chopper

The bandwidth chopper midway of the BIFROST neutron guide has been installed and commissioned.

LOKI

The installation of under-the-tank raceways has been completed, with works continuing under the false floors of the LOKI control cabin roof. Steel shielding walls for the cave and sample position area have been prepared for installation.

ODIN

The cable channels built into the base slab of the ODIN cave has been covered with aluminum lids. Mounting of the elevated structure for the cave will be next. It will be built with precast blocks and roof panels.

User Labs

The on-site laboratories continue to support the installation community at ESS. At the physical characterisation lab samples are prepared for elemental analysis.
