12 November 2018

This week at the construction site, castings for the pillars in A2T (Accelerator to Target) in the Target Building (D02) are in progress.

There are 6 pillars on each side of the A2T tunnel, which will support the coming vault construction. Reinforcement and formwork are now in progress for the A2T tunnel vault, with the first casting planned for the second half of November. Reinforcement is ongoing for level 3 of the Active Cell walls. These walls will be cast with heavy concrete, containing iron ore. Vault construction is also continuing for the high bay slab above the Monolith.

Drilling for additional steel cores is in progress in the northwest corner of the Target area. 31 steel core piles (each 25-28 meters long) will be installed here, with the first hitting the bedrock on November 20.

Metal cladding, internal finishes and various MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) installations are in progress in all the E-buildings. Doors and gates are now in place in Experimental Hall 3 (E01) and Beam Line Gallery (E02).

At the Gallery Building (G02), all 19 waveguide support structures are now in place throughout the Klystron Gallery. Over 100 tons of steel were used to produce these towering structures to support the RF (radio frequency) power delivery system, giving power to the Accelerator via the stubs. Installation of the DTL (Drift Tube Linac) workshop is ongoing in the Test Stand area of G02. A mechanical workshop, the Temporary Technical Center (TTC), has also been fitted inside G02, the start of the long-term ESS central mechanical workshops to be hosted later in B02/Campus.

Logistic Center (F03) - The Logistics building’s floor castings were completed this week. Internal finishes, including concrete drying/levelling and internal wall installations will continue throughout the month of November. MEP works will kick-off next week, starting with sprinkler and fire detection systems. Window fitting will also commence next week.
