Target

The very first Monolith high bay casting was performed last week. In total there will be four casting sessions, with this first 240 m3 pour being carried out on the west side. The top slab is two metres thick (800mm in the middle due to a hatch), making the total height of the tallest part of the Target building, from bottom slab to high bay slab, approx. 17.5 metres.

In addition, the Admin base slab, the Substation, and five slab sections for Experimental Hall 2 were cast. In total about 700 m3 of concrete were added last week.  Completion of the slabs in Halls 1 and 2 is set for June 2019.

The contract with Severfield (UK) for the superstructure of the Hall 1 and 2 Buildings is now in place. Steel erection in the Admin and the Substation buildings will soon begin.

The stub works continue, with installation of conduits, piping and waveguides being carried out 23 of the 27 stubs connecting the Klystron gallery to the Accelerator tunnel. Furthermore, the mounting of the steel structure in the first 100 metres of the Klystron gallery was completed.

General

The beam and head for two cranes arrived on the site last week; the large Hall 1 overheard crane and the Hall 2 slime crane.

Excavation and piping for water and sewage around the Experimental Hall Buildings is nearing completion. Levelling and asphalting of the external area outside the large Experimental Hall will follow. In addition, excavation and installation of a retaining wall is ongoing at the east end of the site, along the fence behind the Front End Building.

Refill between the beamline wall and E02 slab is also in progress. The foundation team installed the very last RD pile this week, meaning all piles in the scope - almost 7,000 - have now been completed.

The Logistics Centre is on time for handover to ESS in August, and with early access expected in June. Interior works are ongoing in both the office and workshop areas. The fitting of a kitchen, bathrooms, carpets, radiators and various painting jobs is in progress, as well as electrical and ventilation installations.
