Target

The steel structure for the Target Substation Building is in place, and will be followed by precast concrete, TRP roofing and sandwich panels.

Steel superstructure start for the admin/target Entrance Building, as well in D04, the Lab Building for Experimental Hall 2, is planned for early July. High bay steel columns (18-20m) for the monolith and utility will also commence in July, followed by 'Accelerator to Target' (A2T) tunnel at the end of August.

In the Monolith, the steel plug separating the 'Drift to Target' (D2T) corridor from the monolith vessel area, has been positioned and grouted. ESS's Target Division have been granted a month’s installation window in this area (1-30 June) to install a support structure for the proton beam line in D2T, shielding plates and base plates for the monolith.

Accelerator

Waveguide installations continue in the accelerator tunnel and in the stubs, the chicane-shaped connections to the Klystron Gallery. Approximately 20% of the waveguides are now installed, with another 100 units being added per week, on average. For the elliptical part of the Cryogenic Distribution System (CDS) we have to date installed nine valve boxes and positioned another five. Welding works for interconnections between components are ongoing.

General

Experimental Halls: A Sectional Handover Inspection for Experimental Hall 3 and part 1 of the Beamline Gallery was successfully completed, with a few issues identified that will be addressed before the sectional handover to ESS in August. Interior works continue for two of the Lab Buildings.

Waste Treatment Facility: The bottom slab for the basement pit has been cast, and reinforcement and form for the walls is ongoing. Process piping and excavation is in progress in the area.

Logistics Centre: Treatments of the floors in the large hall is completed. Test and commissioning of the systems is ongoing with some electrical installations and lightning protection remaining. Early access will be given to ESS mid-June, and the building will be used for storage purposes.
