Target

In the A2T (Accelerator to Target) the filigree slabs on level 140 are ready for casting, after which pre-cast walls for the top level will be put into place. The top floors of the A2T building will mostly house ventilation equipment and other technical installations.

The temporary high bay crane is in use over the Monolith and Utility buildings, and works are ongoing with the extension to cover the entire high bay, with an aim of having this operational by early May. Works for the Transport Hall entrance and loading area are ongoing, with steel for the entry gate now in place. This is where the Target Monolith vessel will be delivered, for lifting up onto the high bay using the overhead crane, and then lowered to its final position on the Monolith puck. Sandwich panels and the TRP (Tremco Roof Preservative) roof are completed for the Active Cell high bay, with sandwich now continuing for the Transport Hall.

The superstructure for Experimental Hall 1 is nearing completion, and installation of roof trusses is set to start on this side. Roof trusses are ongoing for Experimental Hall 2 and installation is now complete for the bunker area, which means sandwich panel installation can begin here shortly.

ESS Target Division now have parallel access to level 090, 100 and 110 of the Monolith and Utility buildings. Installation of water drain tanks and ventilation is ongoing. The R6 bracket installation is complete on the Hall 2 side, and ongoing on the south side of the Monolith. Before the R6 pillars can be installed, painting of the brackets and the surrounding walls needs to be carried out.

Accelerator

As IFJ PAN,  ESS's in-kind installation partner, are currently off site, the ESS Radio Frequency team have received help from other ESS work packages to continue the physical installation of waveguides in sections 1-5 of the Drift Tube Linac.

General

With all reinforcement and in-situ cast concrete completed for the Waste Treatment Facility, the crane was demobilised last week. Roof works will start mid-May, using a mobile crane.

Test and commissioning of all systems installed in the Central Utility Building is in progress– with handover of the entire building planned for June 2020. Meanwhile, E.ON continues with their installations on the ground floor, and work has come a long way with installation of equipment in the server rooms.

The erection of wall elements for the NMX cave is progressing nicely, with the first layer now completed.

Cladding along the Circular Road is ongoing, with concrete sheets being installed in the steel structures attached to the sheet piling wall.
