Target

Sandwich panels are now being installed for the Transport Hall area at the back of the Target station. The third roof truss for Experimental Hall 1 will be in place shortly. it is anticipated that one pair of roof trusses will be mounted per week. A lot of preparations are needed to get these 52-metre-long pieces in place! In the Utility building, ESS Target Division continues with HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) installations and cable trays. Installation and piping for the drain tank system is also ongoing. Equipment is being lifted down via the high bay hatch. Installation of the diagonal R6 wall brackets started LAST week on the Experimental Hall 2 side.

A brand new lifting beam has been inaugurated by SEC and was used to reorganise the in-situ-cast hatches in the temporary storage area. After testing, the beam was handed over to the ESS rigging team.

Accelerator

As the cable terminations are substantially completed for the RFQ/MEBT (Radio Frequency Quadrupole/Medium Energy Beam to Target) area of the Normal Conducting Linac (NCL), Assemblin are now continuing their works in the DTL (Drift Tube Linac) section. The ESS RF team and partners are in progress with waveguide installations in the DTL area, both sides of the stubs (Tunnel & Gallery Building). Concrete shielding blocks have been delivered and are currently stored in the FEB drop hatch next to the ion source. These will be used to build a temporary shielding wall after DTL tank no 4. The purpose of this is to be able to safely test and commission the NCL, whilst installations continue upstream. The shielding wall assembly is planned for late May - before that some cable trays and past installations have to be temporarily removed. Test Stand 2 will become a supervised area and therefore needs fencing installed to close off the area. To allow for transports and controlled entry using card reader, a combination of folding gate and fence door is used.

General

The civil team is busy completing the external areas in the outskirts of site by the ponds, outside the Gallery Building and in the area between Central Utility Building and the Distribution Substation. Asphalt will be installed soon. Cladding around circular road continues, as well as the retaining wall and refill works around the Dog Leg. This autumn, the Campus Plaza will go into production, i.e. the exterior concrete floor, which connects the Campus area with the Target Entrance building. These works will be performed by the Campus project, and their subcontractor Nordic Concrete.
