The European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, Piotr Serafin, visited ESS with his delegation earlier this week.

Joining the Commissioner’s delegation were representatives from Max IV Laboratory, Lund University, the County Administrative Board, and several local business partners such as TetraPak, Alfa Laval, Kraftringen and E.ON, highlighting the broad interest in ESS as a scientific and economic driver for the region.

The programme began with an introduction to ESS by Director General Helmut Schober, providing insights into the project's progress and its future impacts on European research. This was followed by a site walk, allowing the delegation to witness firsthand the construction and development of what will be one of the world’s most advanced neutron sources.

ESS Director General Helmut Schober emphasised the importance of close partnerships and alliances with European stakeholders to ensure that ESS not only delivers on its promises to science but also maximises the opportunities to strengthen Europe’s position in innovation and sustainability:

"The presence of the Commissioner and our distinguished guests today reaffirms the essential role of ESS in the European scientific roadmap. Strong support from policymakers and stakeholders is vital to ensuring ESS reaches its full potential as a centre for innovation and scientific discovery."
