Target

Target roof

The cantilever roof over the Target building and two adjacent halls is completed.

A2T Hydrogen room

The frame for the overpressure vents for the hydrogen room on the top floor of the Accelerator to Target (A2T) building is in place, with hatches following soon. Once the room is weathertight, installation of the Cryogenic Moderator System (CMS) can start.

Accelerator

The beam commissioning team continue their efforts to iron out any issues detected during their quest to send beam from the ion source up to the Medium Energy Beam Transport (MEBT) faraday cup. At the end of last week, beam through the Radio-Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) was achieved.

Installation of pedestals for the medium beta cryomodules has started. These are positioned in-between the Linac Warm Units, which has recently been subject to particle-free installation in a clean room environment.

Experimental Halls

LOKI

The detector vessel for the LOKI instrument has been moved to its permanent place, within the perimeter of the scientific cave. After successful completion of vacuum leak tests, the 12,5-metre long, 3,5-diameter tank was lifted in place, in presence of UK in kind partner ISIS via STFC.

ESTIA

The second Selene guide for the ESTIA instrument has been delivered to site.

Neutron shielding bunker

The redesigned bunker cranes are subject to Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at the manufacturer in Norway, and will be installed on site and ready for NSS to use in early 2022. Delivery of bunker roof elements has started, and installation will follow once the bunker cranes are operational.
